Image and style are not exclusive to just some people. Each individual can develop the skills to always look and feel their best.
It is said that when we meet people for the first time 55% of our initial communication is visual. The way you look, dress, act and feel about yourself will therefore affect your ability to make a positive first impression.
In many cases your "image" will determine how successful you are in establishing relationships with others in personal, social and business situations.
When you are confident that you are projecting a great visual image you will:
• Experience an increase in your self-confidence and self esteem
• Improve your prospects for career advancement
• Enjoy meeting new people and developing new relationships
• Shop in half the time and with much greater accuracy
• Create a wardrobe of clothes that will allow you to always look your best
• Love the person you see in the mirror!
Image is less about beauty, age, size, wealth or even fashion and more specifically about understanding yourself and having the confidence to uncover your unique style.
With increased confidence others will see you in a new and more positive light. If you wish to climb the corporate ladder a great image will result in others seeing you as professional and capable of promotion.
By improving your image you will always be confident that you are in control. Good grooming habits are the basis of an excellent personal appearance and image. Developing positive daily habits to include excellent grooming will make you more approachable and attractive to others.
• Organise yourself so that skincare (for men and women) and make up (for women) becomes second nature and not a hassle every time you leave the house. Taking care of your skin will keep you looking good well into the future. Well-applied make up enhances a woman's looks and beauty. Studies show that women who wear moderate make up consistently are perceived as being more professional.
• Maintenance of your clothes and shoes is important both to prolong the life of your clothes and footwear and to keep you looking good. At the very minimum your clothes should be clean, pressed and in good repair. Shoes should be well heeled and polished. People may make judgements about you, wrongly or rightly, based on the condition of your shoes.
• Hair needs to be well maintained and in a style that is flattering to the wearer. Hair needs to be trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks and should be washed regularly. Unkempt hair looks unattractive and can make you feel uncomfortable about your appearance (bad hair days!)
• Kit yourself out for emergencies. Suggested items might be:
Hairbrush and/or comb
Small sewing kit
Deodorant
Spare hosiery (women)
Clothes brush (a good alternative is sticky tape)
Electric razor (men)
• Establish positive daily habits - put into place a routine that includes a healthy diet, exercise, good hygiene and adequate sleep. When you feel well rested and in good health it goes a long way to making you feel good about meeting others.
When you feel good about meeting others you will have a better self-image and increased confidence.
