	Stepping Up Mentor Program

	Stepping Up is a business development program aimed at established small businesses and is being offered throughout metropolitan Sydney. It offers a combination of facilitated group workshops, group sessions and individual asssitance. We recognise that after start-up, the next critical phase comes when a business owner has to decide how and when to commit resources to expansion. This is when "the voice of experience" can be invaluable. We provide an opportunity for established business owners committed to growing their business to acquire new skills and develop growth plans and strategies to drive their business to the next level. Focused Help for Your Business: The Stepping Up Program is not a 'feel good' personal coaching program. It is designed to help you resolve an identified business issue or pursue an identified opportunity. It will provide the opportunity to develop new skills that you can apply after the program has ended. Workshops The Stepping Up program offers a series of four business planning workshops designed to help you identify your business growth pathway. The first workshop "Are you Ready for Growth?" will help you define exactly what it is you want to achieve in your business over the next three years. You will work through what will be required in terms of products, markets, people, technology and finance. The group will decide on key issues which will be worked through at facilitiated workshops. You must choose three workshops to be part of stepping up. We are offering two workshop "Are you Ready for Growth?" in October 2005 & again in November 2005. From these workshop we will identify a number of issues based workshops . View 2005 Timetable (Call 9212 0555 to find out more) Back to Top Mentoring Group mentoring- Brain Trust We acknowledge that business owners who meet the criteria will have already surrounded themselves with mentors and coaches. What is needed is a pool of experts who collectively can provide group experience by combining their expertise. One week after each workshop we will be holding a brain trust session where the group will be in a position to learn from each other and access a panel of experts on the workshop issue. *Individual Mentoring* At the conclusion of the third workshop you will have identified the main issue that is most important to you. We will use this as the basis for matching you with an experienced business operator who has some experience in the area you identified. Your expert will then provide two hours of one-on-one assistance to develop detailed strategies to overcome the business hurdle or pursue the business opportunity you have identified. In the group brain trust or the one-on-one sessions the experts will act as a sounding board to bounce ideas off. They may assist you with industry knowledge or in many other ways. Our experts do not offer professional advice or consulting services. Back to Top Eligibility criteria To be accepted into the Stepping Up Program a business must meet all the eligibility criteria which are as follows: NSW-based Business owner has operated the business for at least two years and no more than five years Able to provide financial accounts and reports for at least two financial years which show the business is profitable and has a positive balance of assets over liabilities Have sales turnover of between $200,000 and $10 million per annum. Employ at least one staff member in addition to the owner. Able to identify a business goal or hurdle suitable to be addressed through the program. Be prepared to enter into an agreement with DSRD to progress the recommendations flowing from the Stepping Up Program. Be prepared to respond to DSRD monitoring and evaluation surveys each year for up to two years after the project has been completed and cooperate with promotion opportunities for the program following participation. If you have a minimum of five years recent experience as a business owner or manager we would like to hear from you. Mentors need to have strong communication skills and be prepared to sign agreements that preclude conflicts of interest and breaches of confidentiality. Mentoring is a rewarding experience as the mentor can pass on their knowledge and skill to help other business owners to create new sales, jobs and profits.
